SUBJECT:
Sliding Door Difficult To Open Or Close, B-Pillar Weatherstrip Missing, Deformed, Or Loose
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing tape strips to the inside sliding door glass and replacing both sliding door B-pillar weatherstrips.
MODELS:
2001 (RS) Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
One or both sliding doors may be difficult to open or close. Vehicles equipped with power sliding door(s) may have incidents of false obstacle detection whereas the door reverses direction during the closing cycle. Also, the sliding door B-pillar weatherstrip may be loose, deformed, or missing.
DIAGNOSIS:
With the sliding doors closed, inspect both B-pillar weatherstrips' position against the front doors. If the weatherstrips are pinched or deformed between the front and sliding door, perform the Repair Procedure. Open the sliding doors and inspect both B-pillar weatherstrips for looseness. If either of the B-pillar weatherstrips are loose or missing, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the existing B-pillar weatherstrip from the sliding door and clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol.
2. Apply two tape strips to the inside front edge of the sliding door glass as shown in (Fig. 1). Position one tape strip 1/3 down from the top of the glass and the other 1/3 up from the bottom of the glass. With backing removed and the adhesive side towards the inside sliding door glass, slide the tape strip between the sliding door glass and the sliding door until the edge of the tape strip is flush with the sliding door glass. Use a trim stick or another appropriate tool to apply pressure to attached the tape strips to the glass.
NOTE:
THE TAPE STRIP MUST BE ADHERED TO THE INSIDE PORTION OF THE SLIDING DOOR GLASS. DO NOT APPLY THE TAPE STRIP TO THE SLIDING DOOR.
3. Position and attached the new weatherstrip to the front edge of the sliding door glass.
4. Perform steps 1 through 3 on the other sliding door.
