PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.
NOTE:
THE CENTER CONSOLE IS REMOVABLE MAKING IT CONVENIENT FOR A "BENCH" REPAIR. LETTING THE CONSOLE WARM UP TO ROOM TEMPERATURE WILL HELP FACILITATE THE REPAIR PROCESS.
1. Open the front lid and remove the cell phone holder and set aside.
2. Squeeze the two support arms together enough to allow them to be rotated past the lip of the console base. This step allows easier access to the 4 phillips head screws in the lower hinge leaf that attaches the front lid to the console base.
a. Remove the 4 screws attaching the lid hinge to the console base and set aside.
b. Remove the lid; set the trim color side down on a padded surface to avoid scratches.
c. Remove the 5 screws that hold the two lid halves together and set aside for reuse.
d. Separate the (black) inner lid from the outer lid.
e. Grasp the rounded end of the rubber bumpers (with the hole in it) and pull to remove the two rubber bumpers and set them aside.
3. Individually insert the rubber bumpers, saved from step 2e, into the two recessed holes of the revised inner lid panel, p/n 05073606AA, being certain the rounded end of the bumper is on the textured side of the revised inner lid panel. Pull the "tail" of each of the bumpers until seated.
4. Fit the inner panel back onto the outer lid.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THE LATCH IS SEATED INTO THE OUTER LID WHEN REPLACING THE INNER LID.
NOTE:
THE HINGE IS DESIGNED TO BE TRAPPED BETWEEN THE OUTER LID AND THE INNER LID.
5. Reinstall the 5 screws removed in step 2c. Tighten the screws to 0.6 - 0.8 Nm (5 - 7 in. lbs.). Assure that the latch moves freely.
6. Set the lower leaf of the hinge over the four holes in the console base and reinstall the 4 screws removed in step 2a. Tighten the screws to 0.6 - 0.8 Nm (5 - 7 in. lbs.).
7. Squeeze the support arms together and rotate the lid toward the closed position until the support arms fit under the lip of the console side.
8 Reinstall the cell phone holder and return the center console to service.
