Procedure Two - Seat Back W/O Side Airbags (Trim Code CL)

NOTE:
ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH SIDE AIRBAGS, THE SEAT BACK MUST BE REPLACED AS AN ASSEMBLY. IF THE SEAT BACK HEATING ELEMENT HAS FAILED IN A VEHICLE WITH SEAT SIDE AIRBAGS, REPLACE THE COMPLETE SEAT BACK FOLLOWING PROCEDURE THREE.

1. Disconnect all seat wiring from the vehicle wiring harness. Remove seat from vehicle and place it on a clean work surface.

2. Remove armrest.

3. Remove the lumbar support lever (if equipped).

4. Remove screws for seat back rear panel and remove panel.

5. Remove inboard seat side cover.

6. Remove the rear J-strap for the seat cushion cover.

7. Remove the velcro attachments and the J-straps along seat back.

8. Lift the seat back cover up to gain access to the heated seat element wiring connector. Cut off the connector as close to the cover as possible.

9. Note position and routing of heated seat wiring for reinstallation. Disconnect heating element wiring harness connector located at the rear inboard side of seat cushion and discard harness.

10. Lift seat back cover from cushion taking care not to damage the foam or velcro. Position the cover over the headrest.





a. Remove the paper backing off the new heating element and press the element onto the foam pad as shown in (Fig. 3).

b. Wrap the upper ends of the heating element over the edge of the trench making sure it does not cover the velcro hooks (Fig. 3).

c. Route the heating element wiring harness as noted in step 9 and attach connector.

11. Place the seat back cover in position on the seat.

12. Engage the J-straps and the velcro straps of the seat back cover to the seat back.

13. Install inboard seat cushion side cover.

14. Install the seat back panel.

15. Install the lumbar support lever (if equipped).

16. Install the seat arm rest.

17. Position seat into vehicle.

18. Tip seat rearward and connect seat wiring connectors to body harness.

19. Position seat and riser to floor.

20. From underneath the vehicle, install seat attaching nuts and tighten to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs).

21. Connect battery negative cable.
