SUBJECT:
Minivan Electrical System Information

MODELS:
2003 (RS) Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager

2003 (RG) Chrysler Voyager (International Markets)

DISCUSSION:
This bulletin explains information related to electrical system changes for the 2003 Minivans

ELECTRONIC VEHICLE INFORMATION CENTER (EVIC)/OVERHEAD CONSOLE
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is optional with Electronic Vehicle
Information Center (EVIC) (not standard).

Instantaneous fuel economy has been eliminated from the EVIC and overhead console. The service interval has been reduced from 7500 to 6000 miles in the EVIC.

MECHANICAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (MIC)
The MIL and Oil Pressure indicators have been moved from the message center to the top of the four gauge MIC.

Midline (3 gauge) MIC has a LED PRNDL instead of vacuum fluorescent PRNDL. Luxury (gold faced) MIC illuminated pointers have been removed.

If a MIC learned inadvertently that a vehicle has a feature when it really does not (example; ABS) the MIC can be reset using the DRBIII(R) at the dealership. Previously the cluster had to replaced. See TSB 08-009-02.

TRANSMISSION
The Autostick feature is no longer available.

INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (1PM)
The IOD fuse has increased in amperage rating from a "blue" 15 amp fuse, to a "yellow" 20 amp fuse for the 2003 RS/RG models.

The IOD fuse "stored" location, next to the 40 amp power window cartridge fuse number 28, and the "in service" location (cavity 14) have not changed from previous model years. Reference the MDS2(R) or the 2003 RS Service Manual, Volume 2 page 8W10-3 (publication no. 81-370-03062A) for further information.

The hazard circuit feed is now powered internally within the 1PM assembly.

INTERIOR SWITCHES
The 8-way passenger power seat has been changed to 4-way power seat. The passenger power seat switch arrows have been eliminated. The front switch controls forward and rearward adjustment. The rear switch controls the seatback recline adjustment.

The back lighting has been removed from the door lock switches, B pillar power sliding door switch, power mirror switch, headlamp switch (without auto headlamps), and lowline window switches (except auto down).

The child lock input for the power sliding door module has been eliminated. This will allow the power sliding door to be power opened when the child lock switch (on sliding door shut face near the rear latch) is engaged.

VEHICLE THEFT ALARM (VTA)
The VTA indicator is no longer in the message center, it has been relocated to the MIC, therefore the Body Control Module (BCM) no longer controls the VTA indicator via a direct hardwire circuit. The indicator lamp is controlled via a PCI bus message from the BCM to the MIC.

The VTA can no longer be disarmed using the passenger door lock cylinder due to the elimination of the passenger door lock cylinder and passenger door lock cylinder position switch on all RS vehicles (this also eliminates Central Locking from the passenger side door).

The liftgate lock cylinder position switch has been eliminated on all RG vehicles. When the VTA is armed and the customer gains access to the liftgate via the liftgate lock cylinder, the VTA will activate until a proper VTA disarm has been detected or 30 seconds has passed.

The procedure to enable the VTA has changed due to the elimination of the hood ajar switch on all RS vehicles. It is no longer necessary to have the hood open when enabling the VTA. The BCM detects a Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) and a valid Sentry Key in order to enable the VTA.

CENTRAL LOCKING/UNLOCKING
For RG vehicles with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) only, the left and right side door key cylinder switches have been eliminated. This eliminates central locking from both front doors.

MEMORY MIRRORS
The passenger side memory mirror feature has been eliminated.

ADJUSTABLE PEDAL SYSTEM
The Adjustable Pedal System will be introduced during the 2003 model year (late introduction).

The Front Control Module (FCM) spare output # 1 will control the external Adjustable Pedal Module (APM) relay function.

INTERIOR LIGHTING
Whenever the dimmer thumb wheel switch is in the dome position, only the dome lamp(s) on the headliner will illuminate. The map reading lamps, the door lamps, and the liftgate flood lamps will not illuminate.

AUDIO AND VIDEO
Factory installed rear DVD video system (sales code XRV) includes:

1. Rear seat audio kit (sales code RDT) which contains: 2 radio frequency headphones, new remote control with DVD function buttons added, instruction sheet and 8 AAA batteries.

2. Single DVD/CD player (sales code RD9) which contains auxiliary jacks for hook up of customer's MP3 player, video games, and/or video camcorder.

3. Dual media radio (sales code RBU). This radio has been improved for the added rear DVD video screen and rear seat entertainment use.

A 6 disc CD changer (sales code RDN) replaces the 4 disc changer.

Redesigned base radios (sales codes RBB for AM/FM/Cassette) and (sales code RBK for AM/FM/CD)

NOTE:
BASE RADIO (SALES CODE RAS) IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY IN A 2003 RS/RG VEHICLE.

The 6x9 non-amplified speakers (sales code RCD or RCG) have a new wiring connector (AMP70 version) and allow the front door and rear quarter speakers to be a common part.

Mast antenna and mount are silver (no longer painted black).

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT AUDIO AND VIDEO PRODUCTS
Audio systems need to have the proper "Audio Equalizer Curve" selected when the FCM is replaced.

DVD/CD player (sales code RD9).

1. After a disc is inserted into the player, it may take up to 20 seconds for the player to determine the disc type (CD or DVD) and begin playing it.

2. The player will not play CD-R (recordable) or CD-RW (rewritable) discs.

DVD video screen has 3 buttons on the passenger side of the screen;

^ Picture size button (top).
^ Enter button (middle).
^ Brightness button (bottom with "+" and "-").

Remote control "ON" button at the upper right of the remote control and the button labeled "Rear" on the radio turns on the rear seat transmitter for the rear headphones.
