Window Regulator Modules (PT27 Only)
In each door of the PT27 there is a window regulator module directly connected to each of the front door window regulator motors. The modules control window motor operation, smart glass functions and the convertible top operations (driver window module). Each module will enter sleep mode if there is no ignition switch voltage and the respective door is closed for 1 minute or longer. The module will enter wait mode if there is no ignition switch voltage for 1 minute or longer but the respective door is open. After being in wait mode for 12 hours, then with door open, the module will go to sleep mode. At this time the module will wake up only if the ignition is turned on. Under normal circumstances the module will wake up if it receives a door ajar switch sense, a window drop switch sense or an ignition switch voltage. When software changes are necessary, the modules can be flashed by using the DRBIII. Each module is capable of setting trouble codes to aid in the diagnosis when a malfunction occurs. When a module must be replaced it is necessary to replace the entire regulator assembly because of possible damage to the hall effect sensor in the module.CONVERTIBLE TOP
The convertible top switch is hard wired to both window regulator modules by the Power Top Switch Mux circuit. When a top operation input is received by the driver window module, it will ground the respective relay control circuit which in turn will operate the motor. If the convertible top switch is pressed and held to the down position second detent, it will command both modules to drop all windows to the fully down position. The windows cannot be raised when the convertible top switch is in the top down position. When the switch is held in the top up position and all four windows are fully up, the modules will lower the respective front window 40 mm, lower the respective rear window for 0.52 seconds (approx. 55 mm) and the driver window module will ground the top up relay control circuit. Once the top is back up, the windows will not raise automatically. When the top switch is pressed in either position, the driver window regulator module will ground the respective relay control circuit for a maximum of 30 seconds. The window regulator module monitors vehicle speed and if the speed is over 15 mph the top will not operate.
POWER WINDOWS
The window switches are hard wired by a mux circuit to the respective window regulator module. The respective rear window motor is hard wired to the module. The front window motor is directly attached to the module. Both front door window switches have the express down feature. The module will cease lowering the front glass when a fully down position is sensed through the hall effect sensor. The module will cease lowering or raising the rear glass when a high stall current is detected for more than 400 ms.
SMART GLASS
When a door is opened, the respective module will receive a signal from the door ajar switch or the window drop switch. The window drop switch is directly controlled by both the interior and the exterior door handle switches. The drop switch is part of the door latch. This switch is faster than the door ajar switch to signal an open door operation. At that point the module will drop the front door glass 10 mm. However, if the window drop switch should fail, the door ajar sense would also drop the window 10 mm and the module would set a trouble code. If the module receives a door ajar switch open (door closed) it would raise the window 10 mm. The module knows the position of the window by counting the motor rotation through the hall effect sensor in the module. If a door window is raised while that door is open, the module will raise the glass up, but when the door is closed it will raise the glass 10 mm further up.
When the convertible top down switch is pressed to the first detent, the input is received by the window regulator modules which will lower the door windows approximately 40 mm, lower the rear window glass for approximately 0.52 seconds (approx. 55 mm), and after a 200 ms delay, energize the power top down relay to lower the convertible top.
The window regulator module monitors ambient temperature from the engine control module. At cold temperatures the stall time for the rear window motors is increased because of the possibility of ice or frost.
