Convertible Top Frame: Service and Repair

NOTE: The entire folding top assembly should never be adjusted at its mounting points. The folding top has been fixture set to correlate with the location of the side glass. This describes the process to replace the folding by locating the new folding top in the same position as the part requiring replacement.

REMOVAL

1. Begin with the folding top in the raised position.
2. Remove the rear seat cushion.
3. Remove the interior quarter trim panels.
4. Remove the rear seat back.

Well Liner:

Convertible Top Well:

5. Remove the well liner.

Hydraulic Pump Cover:

6. Remove the hydraulic pump cover.

Pump Mounting:

7. Remove 2 nuts at the hydraulic pump assembly.

Motor/Hydraulic Pump Assembly:

8. Remove 6 push-in clips (3/side) on the hydraulic hoses and wire harness.

Drain Trough:

9. Detach the water trough from the folding top floating bow.
10. Lower the folding top into the stowed position.
11. Disconnect the wire harness from the main body harness at the left side support bracket (between the main pivot bracket and the rear seat back support)

Shelf Seat Bracket:

12. Remove the support brackets.

Rear Weatherstrip:

13. Remove the exterior belt molding.
14. Find 3 bolts attaching each main pivot bracket to the vehicle body but do not remove the bolts at this time.

Cylinder Bolts:

15. Remove one bolt from the main pivot bracket and mark the position of the main pivot bracket hole to the body (paint, a marker or a scribe are suggested).
16. Replace the bolt and snug until later.

Folding Top Assembly:

17. Remove the main pivot bracket attaching bolts.
18. Remove the folding top assembly from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

Folding Top Assembly:

1. Install the new folding top into the vehicle.
2. Align the main pivot bracket attaching points with the marked position of the original folding top.
3. Install 1 main pivot bracket bolt at a time while visually verifying the position is the same as the original folding top.

Shelf Seat Bracket:

4. Install the support brackets.

Rear Weatherstrip:

Trough And Weatherstrip:

5. Install the exterior belt molding.

Cylinder Bolts:

6. Install three bolts attaching each main pivot bracket to the vehicle body.

Shelf Trough:

7. Install the water trough into the folding top floating bow.
8. Lower the folding top into the stowed position.
9. Connect the wire harness from the main body harness at the left side support bracket (between the main pivot bracket and the rear seat back support)

Pump Mounting:

10. Install two nuts at the hydraulic pump assembly.

Motor/Hydraulic Pump Assembly:

11. Install six push-in clips (3/side) on the hydraulic hoses and wire harness.

Hydraulic Pump Cover:

12. Install the hydraulic pump cover.
13. Install the rear seat back.

Well Liner:

Convertible Top Well:

14. Install the well liner.
15. Install the rear quarter trim panels.
16. Install the rear seat cushion.
17. Verify that the dowel pins are properly aligned with the dowel pin receptacles in the windshield frame mounted strikers). If required, adjust the C-link stop-screws as described in Adjustments of the C-link Stop Screws.
