SUBJECT:
Wind Noise At Side Window

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves relocating the foam stuffer at the end of the door outer belt seal.

MODELS:

2005 (PT) Chrysler PT Cruiser

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

A high pitch whistle sound from the mirror / door belt area may be heard at 30 mph - 50 mph (either left or right hand side).

DIAGNOSIS:

If the vehicle operator describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Lower the door glass, and remove the interior door mirror trim bezel (trim stick) for access to the mirror attach nuts.

2. Remove the (3) mirror attach nuts (8 mm wrench). Take care not to drop the nuts inside the door trim cavity.

NOTE:
The repair can be made without complete removal of the mirror which requires removal of the door trim for access to the wire connector.





3. You now have access to the outer belt foam "stuffer" located at the forward end of the belt seal, (Fig. 1).

4. Relocate the foam stuffer to stick out past the end of the belt seal by 2 mm - 4 mm (1/8 - 3/16 in.).

5. Install the door rearview mirror and attach with 3 nuts.

6. Install the door trim bezel.

7. Test drive the vehicle to verify the whistle sound is corrected.
