Convertible Top: Adjustments
ADJUSTMENTSNOTE: No adjustments should be done to the internal folding top adjustment screws located on the main pivot bracket. These screws are manufacturer initial settings only.
Adjustment of the power hydraulic folding convertible top should be performed if the top exhibits any of the following concerns:
- Pull-down and latching efforts too high
- Wrinkles in canopy
- Header "slap" (when top is raised, prior to pull down)
- Dowel pin misalignment
ADD/RELIEVE TENSION TO CANOPY
Adjustment of the floating bow tension strap barrels should be performed if the folding convertible top requires tension to be added, or removed from, the canopy.
1. Position the convertible top in the raised position with it latched to the header.
CAUTION: It is recommended that the barrels be adjusted no more than 2.5 mm (0.10 in.).
NOTE: The left tension barrel bolt is directly accessible from inside the trunk. The right tension bolt must be accessed through the jack storage door opening.
2. From inside the trunk area, remove the rubber plug (2) (1 per side) and adjust the tension strap barrels (1) located in the most rearward point of the trunk compartment, by turning the 10 mm hex screw located on the bottom side of each barrel counter clockwise to loosen the canopy, or clockwise to tighten the canopy. Each screw turn represents 1.25 mm (0.05 in) of adjustment.
3. After the barrels have been adjusted, cycle the folding convertible top to the fully stowed position and then raise it back up and latch it at the header.
DOWEL PIN ALIGNMENT
Adjustment of the C-link stop-screws should be performed to align the dowel pins on the folding top with the dowel pin receptacles in the windshield header mounted strikers.
1. Position the convertible top in the raised position with it unlatched to the header.
NOTE:
- Center line axis of the convertible top dowel pins should be aligned with the center line axis of the dowel pin receptacles.
- Dowel pins can be shifted side to side by turning one stop-screw outward and the opposite side stop-screw inward.
2. Visually inspect the fore/aft alignment of the dowel pin to the receptacles in the windshield header mounted strikers. Measure the amount of misalignment.
3. Lower the convertible top to the stowed position and locate the stop-screws (1) at the base of the C-link to the main pivot bracket (1 per side), between the quarter window and the interior quarter trim.
4. Loosen the 13 mm jam nut and turn the Torx T 40 stop-screw(s) to the amount required and then retighten the jam nut securely. One half clockwise rotation (turn to the right) of the screw will move the folding top forward 2.0 mm (0.08 in), and one half counterclockwise rotation (turn to the left) of the screw will move the folding top rearward 2.0 mm (0.08 in).
5. Raise the convertible top and pull down on the handle. The dowel pins should fall into the center of the dowel pin receptacles. There should be no rubbing or noise from the dowel pins when the dowel pins enter the receptacles.
