Radiator Cooling Fan: Description and Operation
Radiator Cooling Fan
The radiator cooling fan is a dual-speed electric motor driven fan. The radiator fan assembly includes an electric motor, fan blade, and a support shroud (1) that is attached to the radiator. The radiator fan is serviced as an assembly.
Radiator fan operation is controlled by the Total Integrated Power Module (TIPM) with inputs from the Powertrain Control Module. Inputs for coolant temperature and vehicle speed are sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (1). This information is then sent via the communications bus to the TIPM which turns on the radiator fans.
Refer to the chart below for fan operation specifications. For fan circuit wiring diagrams, refer to Wiring Diagrams. Diagrams
If the cooling fan is inoperative or a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) related to fan control has been set, refer to Testing and Inspection
