Line-A/C Suction

LINE-A/C SUCTION

REMOVAL

WARNING: REVIEW SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS BEFORE PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE AND FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

1. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system.
2. If equipped with the 2.4 Turbo engine, remove the accessory drive belt and the three bolts that secure the power steering pump and reservoir to the engine and position the power steering pump and reservoir out of the way.
3. If equipped with the 2.4 Turbo engine, remove the nut that secures the suction line retaining bracket (6) to the thermostat housing stud bolt.
4. Remove the bolt (4) that secures the A/C suction line (5) to the top of the A/C compressor (3).
5. Disconnect the A/C suction line from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
6. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened suction line fitting and the compressor port.

7. Remove the nut (2) that secures the A/C suction line (inboard fitting) (3) to the accumulator tube tapping block (1).
8. Disconnect the A/C suction line from the accumulator tube tapping block and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
9. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened suction line fitting and the accumulator tube tapping block port.
10. Remove the A/C suction line from the engine compartment.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE: Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals is required anytime a refrigerant line is opened. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals could result in a refrigerant system leak.

1. Position the A/C suction line (3) into the engine compartment.
2. Remove the tape or plugs from the suction line fitting and the accumulator tube tapping block port.
3. Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it on the suction line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
4. Connect the A/C suction line to the accumulator tube tapping block (inboard fitting) (1).
5. Install the nut (2) that secures the A/C suction line to the accumulator tube tapping block. Tighten the nut to 20 N.m (180 in. lbs.).

6. Remove the tape or plugs from the suction line fitting and the compressor port.
7. Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it on the suction line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
8. Connect the A/C suction line (1) to the A/C compressor (3).
9. Install the bolt (2) that secures the A/C suction line to the A/C compressor. Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (108 in. lbs.).
10. If equipped with the 2.4L Turbo engine, install the nut that secures the suction line retaining bracket (6) to the thermostat housing stud bolt. Tighten the nut to 5 N.m (44 in. lbs.).
11. If equipped with the 2.4L Turbo engine, reinstall the power steering pump and reservoir and the accessory drive belt.
12. Evacuate the refrigerant system.
13. Adjust the refrigerant oil level.
14. Charge the A/C system.
