Front
SENSOR-FRONT WHEEL SPEEDREMOVAL
NOTE: Before proceeding, Refer to Service Precautions.
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Right side sensor - Disconnect the wheel speed sensor cable connector (1) from the wiring harness on the inside of the frame rail above the front suspension crossmember. The connector has a locking tab which must be pulled back before the connector release tab can be depressed, releasing the connection.
3. Left side sensor - Disconnect the wheel speed sensor cable connector (5) from the wiring harness on the inside of the frame rail above the front suspension crossmember. The connector has a locking tab which must be pulled back before the connector release tab can be depressed, releasing the connection.
4. Left side sensor - Remove the speed sensor cable routing clips (4) from the brake tube (2) on the inside of and under the frame rail (3).
5. Remove the wheel speed sensor cable (3) from the retainer on the brake hose bracket (2) mounted to the frame rail (6).
6. Remove the screw (3) fastening the wheel speed sensor (1) head to the knuckle (4).
CAUTION: When removing a wheel speed sensor from the knuckle, do not use pliers on the sensor head. This may damage the sensor head. If the sensor has seized, use a hammer and a punch to tap the edge of the sensor head ear, rocking the sensor side-to-side until free.
7. Carefully pull the sensor head with heat shield (2) out of the knuckle. Separate the shield from the sensor head.
8. Remove the screw (5) securing the wheel speed sensor routing bracket to the rear of the strut (6). Remove the wheel speed sensor (1) from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Failure to install speed sensor cables properly may result in contact with moving parts or an over extension of cables causing an open circuit. Be sure that cables are installed, routed, and clipped properly.
1. Place the routing bracket of the wheel speed sensor (1) against the mounting flange (rearward ear) on the rear of the strut (6). Install and tighten the mounting screw (5) to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.).
2. Place the heat shield (2) on the wheel speed sensor (1) head.
3. Install the wheel speed sensor (1) head with heat shield (2) on the knuckle (4). Install and tighten the mounting screw (5) to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.).
4. From the sensor bracket on the strut, loop the harness end of the sensor cable (3) upward, then downward at the outside of the frame rail (6). Install the speed sensor cable grommet into the retainer on the brake hose bracket (2) on the frame rail.
5. Right side sensor - Route the wheel speed sensor cable around the bottom of the frame rail and connect it to the wiring harness connector (1) on the inside of the frame rail. Remember to push in the locking tab on the connector.
6. Left side sensor - Route the wheel speed sensor cable (5) around the bottom of the frame rail and connect it to the wiring harness connector on the inside of the frame rail (3). Remember to push in the locking tab on the connector. Attach the speed sensor cable routing clips (4) to the brake tube (2) on the inside of and under the frame rail.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Perform the Diagnostic Verification Test and clear any faults.
