Steering Angle Sensor: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION

NOTE: Steering angle sensor is part of the airbag clockspring and is not serviced separately from the clockspring.

The steering angle sensor is used to measure the driver intended path in the ESP system. Based on the deviation between steering wheel input and the Yaw Rate signal from the dynamic sensor, ESP can be activated. The SAS should be mounted correctly to ensure that the system functions properly and there are not inadvertent activations.

Any replacement of the steering angle sensor requires that the ABS verification test be performed.
