Removal








REMOVAL

WARNING: Review safety precautions and warnings in this group before performing this procedure. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions could result in possible serious or fatal inury.

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system.

WARNING: Do not open the radiator draincock with the engine cooling system hot and under pressure. Failure to follow this warning can result in serious burns.






3. Partially drain the engine cooling system.
4. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator.

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the hood latch from the upper radiator support for A/C compressor service.

5. Remove the upper radiator support and position it out of the way.
6. Remove the accessory drive belt (7).
7. Position the engine cooling module forward to gain access to the A/C discharge line (1) and the A/C suction line (5).
8. Remove the bolts (2 and 4) that secure the A/C suction line and the A/C discharge line to the A/C compressor (3).
9. Disconnect the A/C suction and discharge lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals.






10. Raise and support the vehicle.
11. If equipped with a diesel engine, remove the turbocharger to charge air cooler hose to gain access to the A/C compressor (6).
12. Disconnect the engine wire harness connectors from the compressor clutch coil connector (1) and the A/C high pressure switch (4) (if equipped).
13. Support the A/C compressor and remove the four bolts (5) that secure the compressor to the mounting bracket (7).
14. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment.
15. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports (2 and 3).
