Grease/Oil on Driver's Side Carpet
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting and if necessary, replace the plastic cap on the adjustable pedals transmission.
MODELS:
2008 (HB) Durango
2008 (HG) Aspen
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals (Sales code XAM or XAP) Built form February 1, 2008 to May 30, 2008 (MDH0201XX to M DHO53OXX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customer may experience oil or grease substance on drivers floor. This may be coming from the cap on the adjustable pedal transmission.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the Symptom/Condition is experienced, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Move the adjustable pedals to the forward position, (furthest from seat).
2. Inspect carpet for grease. Is there any grease on carpet?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 3
b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 4
3. Spray carpet using Mopar Total Clean p/n 04897840AB on soiled area and let soak.
4. Protect (cover) the carpet/floor under the brake pedal area.
5. Remove the driver side knee blocker.
6. Remove the knee blocker reinforcement.
7. Remove the pedal transmission plastic cap by removing the three screws retaining the cap (Fig. 1).
NOTE:
Ensure the white gear, wave washer and bushings stay seated properly in the assembly. Do not adjust pedals with cover off.
8. Wipe excess residual grease from transmission housing components and housing-to-cap mating surface.(Fig. 2).
9. Install the replacement cap, p/n 68054285AA. Torque retaining screws to 22 In lbs (2.5 N-m).
10. Wipe any residual grease from clevis pin (behind transmission) (Fig. 3).
NOTE:
Do not adjust pedals with cover off.
11. Operate pedal to ensure proper function.
12. Install the knee blocker reinforcement.
13. Install knee blocker
14. Remove carpet protection and if necessary, scrub and/or wipe up residual carpet cleaner.
