Front Door: Adjustments
CONVERTIBLE GLASS
FRONT DOOR GLASS ADJUSTMENT
NOTE: Verify that the door is properly adjusted to the body prior to adjusting the door glass.
NOTE: Lower quarter glass to the full down position while making door glass adjustments, unless otherwise instructed.
TOP OF GLASS - INBOARD/OUTBOARD ADJUSTMENTS
1. Remove the access covers. Disengage front cover by prying at its rear edge. Disengage rear cover by prying at notch at bottom of reflector.
2. Using a 10 mm socket, loosen the jack screw nuts.
3. Using a 3 mm allen wrench, rotate the jack screw to achieve the proper alignment between the door glass and the weatherstrip. Tighten all fasteners prior to measuring the gaps.
4. Cycle the glass fully down and up, open and close the door. Verify that the top edge of the door glass meets dimension.
5. Install access covers.
UP-STOP ADJUSTMENTS
6. Remove door trim panel.
7. Remove water dam.
8. Apply tape to outboard top surface of glass and close door with top closed.
9. Mark outboard seal contact to glass on tape.
10. Measure marking to edge of glass and see if meets dimensions.
11. Lower glass so up stop is visible through door inner panel.
12. Adjust the up stop to achieve the proper glass to weatherstrip dimensions.
13. Cycle the glass fully down and up, open and close the door. Verify that the top edge of the door glass meets dimensions.
NOTE: Verify that the forward edge of the glass is flush with the mirror flag edge. Adjust the mirror flag as necessary to achieve a flush condition.
GLASS - FRONT/REAR ADJUSTMENT
14. Remove the rear upper corner of watershield.
15. Lower door glass slightly (2 mm or 5/64 inch) to gain access to glass attachments and relieve pressure from up stops.
16. Loosen two rearward glass attachment bolts.
17. Raise door glass and position correctly.
18. Tighten the one accessible glass fasteners in the full up position.
19. Lower door glass and tighten the remaining glass fasteners.
20. Raise glass to top of travel and verify positioning.
21. To verify proper fit of the door glass to the header/A-pillar weatherstrip,
a. Lower door glass slightly.
b. Place a paper strip between the glass and weatherstrip near mirror flag and another near the front upper corner of the door glass.
c. Raise glass to full up position.
d. Pull the strip from between the door glass and the weatherstrip. There should be slight tension on the paper.
DOOR GLASS ALIGNMENT VERIFICATION
NOTE: Door Glass Alignment Verification procedure must be done whenever the door glass is adjusted and after all adjustments are made.
22. Raise quarter glass to full up position.
23. Close door and cycle door glass between full up and full down positions.
24. Verify that door glass operates smoothly and maintains correct alignment to convertible top and quarter glass.
25. Verify that quarter glass weatherstrip fully contacts door glass.
26. Ensure that the weatherstrip and door glass are in proper alignment.
27. If any of the above conditions are found,
a. Adjust quarter glass QUARTER GLASS ADJUSTMENT.
b. Readjust the door glass as necessary to cure the condition.
28. Repeat steps 1 through 6 with the top down.
QUARTER GLASS ADJUSTMENT
NOTE: The door glass must be properly adjusted prior to performing any quarter glass adjustments.Front Door Window Glass
UP-STOP ADJUSTMENTS
1. Remove quarter trim panel.
2. Remove water dam.
3. Apply tape to outboard top and seal surface of glass and raise glass with top closed.
4. Mark outboard seal contact to glass on tape.
5. Measure markings to edge of glass and see if it meets specifications, refer to the specification chart.
6. Loosen up-stop nut.
7. Adjust quarter glass.
8. Tighten up stop nut.
9. Cycle quarter glass between full up and full down positions. Verify operation and adjust as necessary.
10. Install the water dam.
11. Install quarter trim panel. Installation - Convertible.
BOTTOM OF GLASS - INBOARD/OUTBOARD ADJUSTMENTS
12. Remove the quarter trim panel.
13. Remove water dam.
14. Using a suitable offset wrench, loosen the upper forward jack screw set nut.
15. Using a suitable allen wrench, rotate the upper forward jack screw to achieve the proper gap between the door glass and the quarter glass seal. Tighten jack screw prior to measuring the gaps.
16. Using a suitable allen wrench, rotate the upper rearward jack screw to achieve the proper gap between the top seal and the quarter glass. Tighten jack screw nut prior to measuring the gaps.
17. Install water dam.
18. Install quarter trim panel. Installation - Convertible.
TOP OF GLASS - INBOARD/OUTBOARD ADJUSTMENTS
19. Remove quarter trim panel. Removal - Convertible.
20. Remove water dam.
NOTE: Alternatively, the lower adjustment can be accessed through a hole at the bottom of the quarter trim panel. This hole can be located by removing the rear seat cushion. Seat Cushion - Removal
21. Using a suitable wrench, loosen the lower jack screw nuts.
22. Raise quarter glass.
23. Using a suitable allen wrench, rotate jackscrews to achieve the proper gap between the quarter glass, door glass, and top.
24. Verify that the quarter glass maintains even contact with the outer belt weatherstrip.
25. Cycle quarter glass between full up and full down positions. Verify operation and adjust as necessary.
26. Tighten all fasteners.
27. Install water dam.
28. Install quarter trim panel. Installation - Convertible.
GLASS - FRONT/REAR ADJUSTMENT
29. Remove quarter trim panel. Removal - Convertible.
30. Remove water dam.
31. Loosen three glass attachment bolts. For access move glass to the full up position loosen two bolts and lower glass slightly down to access the third bolt.
32. Raise quarter glass and ensure glass is in the proper position.
33. Tighten two adjustment bolts with glass in the full up position.
34. Lower quarter glass approximately 64 mm (2.5 inches) and tighten third bolt.
35. Cycle quarter glass between full up and full down positions. Verify operation and adjust as necessary.
36. Install water dam.
37. Install quarter trim panel. Installation - Convertible
QUARTER GLASS ALIGNMENT VERIFICATION
38. Raise door glass to full up position.
39. Cycle quarter glass between full up and full down positions.
40. Verify that quarter glass operates smoothly and maintains correct alignment to convertible top and door glass.
NOTE: The alignment to door glass can be checked with the "paper strip test". Place a piece of paper on the quarter glass seal and close the door. Slide the paper along the length of the seal - there should be some resistance to pulling the paper out.
41. Verify that quarter glass weatherstrip fully contacts door glass.
42. Verify that no scissoring of the door glass and weatherstrip occurs.
43. If any of the above conditions are found, adjust quarter glass and/or adjust door glass as necessary. Repeat Quarter Glass Alignment Verification.
GLASS ALIGNMENT DIAGNOSIS
CONDITION - HEIGHT MISMATCH BETWEEN DOOR GLASS AND QUARTER GLASS WITH TOP DOWN
1. Verify that the door glass and quarter glass adjustment procedures have been checked.
2. Apply masking tape to outside of glass surface in locations (10), (11), and (12)
3. Close and latch top.
4. With vehicle's engine running, raise quarter glass full up and then raise door glass up then turn engine off.
5. Mark tape at all three locations.
6. Lower top and raise all glass full up.
7. Measure all three tape locations. Location (10), (11), and (12) should be between 5 to 8 mm.
8. Adjust up stop screw (2), if locations (11) and (12) are not within range of 5 to 8 mm.
9. Adjust up stop bracket, (5), if location (10) is not within the range of 5 to 8 mm.
10. With vehicle engine running, lower, all glasses and then raise quarter glasses full up and then raise door glasses full up then turn engine off.
11. Remark and measure, if adjustment is not within range of 5 to 8 mm repeat Steps 8 though 11.
12. If adjustment can not be made, refer to CONDITION - Door Glass Noise Along A-Pillar When Closing Door And/Or Door Glass Touching Quarter Glass Metal Seal Retainer And/Or Wind Noise/Water Leak Along Quarter Glass Seal.
CONDITION - DOOR GLASS NOISE ALONG A-PILLAR WHEN CLOSING DOOR AND/OR DOOR GLASS TOUCHING QUARTER GLASS METAL SEAL RETAINER AND/OR WIND NOISE/WATER LEAK ALONG QUARTER GLASS SEAL.
13. Verify that the door glass and quarter glass adjustment procedures have been checked.
14. Apply masking tape to outside of glass surface in locations (10), (11), (12), and (13)
15. Close and latch top.
16. With vehicle's engine running, raise quarter glass full up and then raise door glass up then turn engine off.
17. Mark tape at all four locations.
18. Lower top and raise all glass full up.
19. Measure all four tape locations. Location (13) should be between 5 to 7 mm. Location (11) and (12) should be between 5 to 12 mm. Location (10) should be between 10 to 16 mm.
20. Loosen both fore and aft screws (4) and move glass fore/aft as necessary, and then tighten to 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.). Verify glass attachments did not loosen to glass.
21. If location (13) is not within range 5 to 7 mm, loosen fore and aft screw (9), and drop glass approximately 80 mm. Loosen the three fore and aft screws then raise glass and move fore/aft and tighten to 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.). Verify glass attachments did not loosen to glass.
22. If locations (11) and (12) are not within the range of 5 to 12 mm. Adjust location (5) up stop bracket (up and down) and location (2) up stop screw.
23. If location (10) is not within the range of 10 to 16 mm, verify CONDITION - Height Mismatch Between Door Glass And Quarter Glass With Top Down is not present.
24. With vehicle engine running, lower, all glasses and then raise quarter glasses full up and then raise door glasses full up then turn engine off.
25. Remark and measure, if adjustment is not within range of 10 to 16 mm repeat Steps 8 though 13.
CONDITION - DOOR GLASS NOT DRIVING INTO THE TOP IN FULL UP POSITION
26. Verify that the door glass and quarter glass adjustment procedures have been checked.
27. Close and latch top.
28. With vehicle's engine running, raise door glass full up.
29. Adjust cross car screw (3), if the door glass is not going into the top seal.
30. With vehicle's engine running, lower door glass and then raise door glass full up. Verify that glass is going into the top seal. If adjustment is still required repeat Steps 3 though 6.
31. With vehicle's engine running, lower door glass and then raise quarter glass full up, and then raise door glass full up and verify that the door glass is going into the top seal. If adjustment is still required repeat Steps 3 though 7.
CONDITION - QUARTER GLASS NOT DRIVING INTO THE TOP IN FULL UP POSITION
32. Verify that the door glass and quarter glass adjustment procedures have been checked.
33. Close and latch top.
34. With vehicle's engine running, raise quarter glass full up.
35. Adjust cross car screw (6), if the front of the quarter glass is not going into the top seal.
36. Adjust cross car screw (7), if the rear of the quarter glass is not going into the top seal.
37. With vehicle's engine running, lower quarter glass and then raise quarter glass full up. Verify that glass is going into the top seal. If adjustment is still required repeat Steps 3 though 6.
38. With vehicle's engine running, lower quarter glass and then raise door glass full up, and then raise quarter glass full up and verify that the quarter glass is going into the top seal. If adjustment is still required repeat Steps 3 though 7.
CONDITION - SLAPPING NOISE BETWEEN THE DOOR AND QUARTER GLASS WITH THE TOP DOWN DURING DRIVING OF THE VEHICLE
39. Verify that the door glass and quarter glass adjustment procedures have been checked.
40. Drop top.
41. Adjust cross car screw (8) to add additional interference between the door glass and the quarter glass sash seal at the belt line when in the full up position. Cross car measurement should be between 2 to 3 mm of the quarter glass under flush to the door glass.
42. Verify with drive evaluation on rough road that issue has been resolved and verify quarter glass cycling time unchanged and no stalling of regulator.
CONDITION - NON-PARALLEL GAP BETWEEN DOOR AND QUARTER GLASSES
43. Verify that the door glass and quarter glass adjustment procedures have been checked.
44. Apply masking tape to outside glass surface in locations (10).
45. Mark tape at the two locations and then drop top.
46. With vehicle running, drive quarter glass full up and then drive door glass up and mark tape at the two locations (10).
47. If gap not parallel to within 1.5 mm, loosen cross car screw (8), cross car screw (7) and cross car screw (6) and rotate quarter glass regulator with quarter glass to body and then tighten to 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.).
48. Repeat test using Steps 3 thought 5, if still can not get parallelism within 1.5 mm then proceed to Step 7.
49. Remove quarter glass regulator with glass and increase slot size, forward 2.0 mm at cross car screw location (6) only.
50. Install the quarter glass regulator with glass and repeat Step 1 thought 5.
CONDITION - QUARTER GLASS SEAL FOLD OVER DURING TRAVEL WITH DOOR GLASS FULL UP AND TOP UP OR DOWN
51. Verify that the door glass and quarter glass adjustment procedures have been checked.
52. With vehicle running, drive door glass full up and then cycle quarter glass full up to full down and repeat several times with the top down.
53. Check the quarter glass seal for fold over.
54. Adjust cross car screw (6) counterclockwise one rotation.
55. With vehicle running, cycle quarter glass full up to full down and repeat several times with the top down and door glass up. If adjustment is still required repeat Step 3.
56. With vehicle running, top up and door glass up and cycle quarter glass full up to full down and repeat several times. If adjustment is still required repeat Steps 3 through 5.
CONDITION - INTERMEDIATE REAR OF DOOR GLASS NOT DRIVING INTO THE TOP SEAL AND/OR NOISE AT REAR BOTTOM OF THE DOOR
57. Remove door trim panel.
58. Inspect bracket assembly clinch/weld nut to verify not damaged (loose from bracket, allowing screw to move cross car) at door cross car screw (3).
59. If bracket assembly is damaged, replace part.
