A/C Compressor - Removal
REMOVAL
WARNING: Review safety precautions and warnings in this group before performing this procedure Warning and Caution. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions could result in possible serious or fatal injury.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
WARNING: Do not open the radiator draincock with the engine cooling system hot and under pressure. Failure to follow this warning can result in serious burns.
3. Partially drain the engine cooling system Service and Repair.
4. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the hood latch from the upper radiator support for A/C compressor service.
5. Remove the upper radiator support and position it out of the wayRemoval.
6. Remove the accessory drive belt (7) Accessory Drive Belt - Removal.
7. Position the engine cooling module rearward to gain access to the A/C discharge line (1) and the A/C suction line (5).
8. Remove the bolts (2 and 4) that secure the A/C suction line and the A/C discharge line to the A/C compressor (3).
9. Disconnect the A/C suction and discharge lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
10. Raise and support the vehicle.
11. Remove the turbocharger to charge air cooler hose to gain access to the A/C compressor (6) .
12. Disconnect the engine wire harness connectors from the compressor clutch coil connector (1) and the A/C high pressure switch (4) (if equipped).
13. Support the A/C compressor and remove the four bolts (5) that secure the compressor to the mounting bracket (7).
14. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment.
15. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports (2 and 3).
