C1038-REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW







- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.

- Set Condition:
When the Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor circuit fails the diagnostic test.





1. CHECK FOR A DTC C1038-REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW

NOTE: This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.

1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read and record DTCs.
3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
4. Cycle the ignition switch from off to on.
5. With the scan tool, read and record DTCs

Does the scan tool display: C1038-REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Perform ABS INTERMITTENT CONDITION TESTABS Intermittent Condition Test.

2. CHECK THE TERMINALS/CONNECTORS/TONE WHEEL FOR DAMAGE

NOTE: Check all related wiring for bruised, chafed, pierced, or partially broken wires.

NOTE: Check all related connectors for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals.

NOTE: Check the tone wheel teeth for missing teeth, cracks, or looseness. Teeth should be perfectly square, not bent, or nicked.

1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Visually inspect the ABM harness connector, Right Rear WSS, Right Rear WSS harness connector, and Right Rear WSS tone wheel (if applicable) for damage.

Were any problems found?

Yes

- Repair as necessary.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TESTABS Verification Test.

No

- Go To 3

3. CHECK THE (B1) RIGHT REAR WSS SIGNAL AND THE (B2) RIGHT REAR WSS SUPPLY CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the ABM harness connector.
3. Disconnect the Right Rear WSS harness connector.
4. Measure the resistance between the (B1) Right Rear WSS Signal and the (B2) Right Rear WSS Supply circuits at the Right Rear WSS harness connector.

Is the resistance above 5.0 ohms?

Yes

- Go To 4

No

- Repair the (B1) Right Rear WSS Signal and the (B2) Right Rear WSS Supply circuits for a short together.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.

4. CHECK THE VOLTAGE ON THE (B2) RIGHT REAR WSS SUPPLY CIRCUIT




1. Reconnect the ABM harness connector.
2. Turn the ignition on.
3. Measure the voltage of the (B2) Right Rear WSS Supply circuit in the Right Rear WSS harness connector.

Is the voltage above 10 volts?

Yes

- Go To 7

No

- Go To 5

5. CHECK THE (B2) RIGHT REAR WSS SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the ABM harness connector.
3. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (B2) Right Rear WSS Supply circuit.

Does the test light illuminate brightly?

Yes

- Repair the (B2) Right Rear WSS Supply circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.

No

- Go To 6

6. CHECK THE (B2) RIGHT REAR WSS SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN




1. Connect a jumper wire between the (B2) Right Rear WSS Supply circuit and ground.
2. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (B2) Right Rear WSS Supply circuit.

Does the test light illuminate brightly

Yes

- Replace the ABM.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.

No

- Repair the (B2) Right Rear WSS Supply circuit for an open.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.

7. CHECK THE (B2) RIGHT REAR WSS SUPPLY AND THE (B1) RIGHT REAR WSS SIGNAL VOLTAGE




1. Measure the voltage between the (B2) Right Rear WSS Supply and (B1) Right Rear WSS Signal circuits at the Right Rear WSS harness connector.

Is the voltage above 10 volts?

Yes

- Go To 10

No

- Go To 8

8. CHECK THE (B1) RIGHT REAR WSS SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (B1) Right Rear WSS Signal circuit.

Does the test light illuminate brightly?

Yes

- Repair the (B1) Right Rear WSS Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.

No

- Go To 9

9. CHECK THE (B1) RIGHT REAR WSS SIGNAL VOLTAGE AT THE RIGHT REAR WSS HARNESS CONNECTOR




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Reconnect all connectors.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. While back probing, measure between the (B1) Right Rear WSS Signal circuit and chassis ground at the Right Rear WSS harness connector.
5. Slowly rotate the wheel by hand.

Did the (B1) Right Rear WSS Signal circuit voltage toggle between approximately 1.6 to 0.8 volts?

Yes

- Go To 10

No

- Replace the Right Rear WSS.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.

10. CHECK THE (B1) RIGHT REAR WSS SIGNAL VOLTAGE AT THE ABM HARNESS CONNECTOR




1. Turn the ignition on.
2. While back probing, measure between the (B1) Right Rear WSS Signal circuit and chassis ground at the ABM harness connector.
3. Slowly rotate the wheel by hand.

Did the (B1) Right Rear WSS Signal circuit voltage toggle between approximately 1.6 to 0.8 volts?

Yes

- Replace the ABM.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.

No

- Repair the (B1) Right Rear WSS Signal circuit for an open.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST ABS Verification Test.
