SYMPTOM/CONDITION

^ All listed models: Loud snapping noise shortly after the door is opened.

^ 1983 models equipped with the electronic voice alert feature: Random messages from the demonstration mode if the driver's door is open.

These conditions can be traced to a door ajar switch that sticks in the pressed (door closed) position and may, after the door has been opened, suddenly release.

The sticking then release action of the switch may be hard to demonstrate as several hours in the door closed position is usually required to cause the switch to stick.

On models equipped with electronic voice alert the system is triggered off the driver's door and a random message complaint can, in most cases, be attributed to the driver's door switch sticking.

Vehicles built after February 3, 1983 should not exhibit this condition. On vehicles built prior to this date, replace the switch using the following part numbers and procedure.
