SYMPTOM/CONDITION
A condition of no manual low gear (drive - 1) may exist on the subject automatic transmission column shift vehicles.
DIAGNOSIS
Start engine and place gear selector in lowest gear (drive - 1). Accelerate in normal manner to approximately 45 mph. If no 1-2 upshift occurs the car is in low gear and no problem exists. If a 1-2 upshift occurs, refer to the repair procedure below.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
FIGURE 1:
STANDARD AND TILT COLUMNS
1. Loosen cable housing at transmission mounting bracket (Figure 1).
2. Grasp cable housing near the clamping location and push cable rearward 2-4 millimeters.
3. While holding cable housing in the above position, retorque clamp.
4. Repeat check for low gear.
CAUTION: AFTER ADJUSTMENT ENSURE THAT IN THE PARK POSITION, PARK ENGAGEMENT IS MAINTAINED AND THAT ENGINE STARTS ONLY IN PARK AND NEUTRAL.
