SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Some subject vehicles may have a buzzing or rattle sound which appears to be coming from the instrument panel in the right cowl area, with the engine running at certain RPM conditions (will vary from car to car). This noise could be the result of normal engine vibration being transmitted to the A/C evaporator through the A/C plumbing.
DIAGNOSIS
1. Set parking brake. Start vehicle engine. With transaxle in Neutral or Park, accelerate engine to noise range.
2. Have an assistant place his or her hand on the A/C suction line and apply enough pressure to hold line solidly against filter/drier. If noise is eliminated, proceed to repair procedure. If noise continues, other areas must be investigated.
PARTS REQUIRED
1 - Package With Bracket PN 4318125
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove and discard tie strap holding suction line to filter drier.
2. Check area where A/C lines come through cowl panel to ensure cowl panel seal is in place. If evaporator block protrudes from the cowl panel, push the plumbing rearward to force seal against cowl panel. There should be at least 1/8" clearance between cowl panel and any metal of A/C components.
3. Seal gap with a water resistant sealer such as Silicone Rubber Sealer, PN 4318025, or equivalent.
4. Thread the screw-type hose clamp through the slots in the hose support bracket and close clamp around the suction hose. Do not tighten fully.
FIGURE 1:
5. Loosen rear filter drier mounting screw, Figure 1.
6. Slip the hose support bracket from Kit, PN 4318125, between the filter drier mounting bracket and fender shield with the open slot around screw. Tighten mounting screw.
7. Punch hole in sheetmetal and attach lower end of hose support bracket to sheetmetal with screw from kit. Tighten securely.
8. Remove enough of the sponge rubber sleeve from the suction hose to clear hose support bracket.
9. Tighten clamp securely to draw suction hose into complete contact with hose support bracket pocket.
10. Using a Tie Strap, PN 6015945 or 2945704, secure discharge hose to suction line forward of receiver drier, if not already tied.
11. Re-evaluate vehicle for correction of the noise.
