SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Difficulty in lowering a window on some subject vehicles equipped with electric window regulators using PN 4184316 and 4184317 motors may be due to a binding condition in the regulator system.

DIAGNOSIS

Remove door trim panel. Using a voltmeter verify that there are 10 or more volts at the regulator motor terminals. If 10 or more volts are not present, problem must be found and corrected before continuing to this repair procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED

1 - Foam Pad PN 4040710

FIGURE 1:

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove Screw and Washer, PN 6100566, and discard (Figure 1). This fastener will be left off to give the electric window lift motor more freedom to float with inner panel deflections.

2. While energizing the motor in the "down" direction, push on the motor tie-down bracket in an outboard direction until the motor begins to operate. Stop applying the push force and actuate the window several times to verify that it is free and not bound up...

3. Add Foam Pad, PN 4040710, or equivalent as shown in Figure 2 (any anti-rattle material that prevents door slam noises can be used).
4. Reinstall motor, check operation, and retrim door.

NOTE: THIS REPAIR WILL ONLY CORRECT NO-RUN CONDITIONS CAUSED BY REGULATOR BINDING. OTHER PROBLEMS SUCH AS DEFECTIVE WIRING, BROKEN CIRCUIT BREAKER, WORN OUT COUPLING GEAR, ETC. WILL STILL HAVE TO BE REPAIRED IF THEY ARE THE PROBLEM CAUSING AN INOPERATIVE MOTOR.
