Fascia to Headlamp Gap In High Sun Load Conditions
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves slotting the fascia upper and lower attaching holes.
MODELS:
2001 - 2002 (JR27) Sebring Convertible
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some subject vehicles may develop a gap between the headlamp and the fascia when the vehicle is parked in direct sun light that causes the surface temperature of the fascia to exceed 54°C (130°F.). As the surface temperature of the fascia becomes cooler, the gap will become smaller.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the vehicle operator describes the above condition, perform the Repair Procedure.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.
1. Raise the hood and remove the six plastic push pin fasteners attaching the fascia to the upper crossmember.
2. Remove the fascia to fender attaching fasteners (one each side).
3. Using a die grinder or rat tail file elongate the fascia upper mounting holes rearward 4 mm (5/32 in.) and at a 45 degree angle outboard. (Fig. 1)
4. Slightly pull the upper corner of the fascia outboard to provide access to the mounting holes. Using a die grinder or rat tail tile, elongate the fascia to fender mounting holes and locating slots toward the front of the vehicle 4 mm (5/32 in.). (Fig. 2)
5. Pull the rear corners of the fascia rearward until bottomed against the elongated slots and install the fascia to fender fasteners. Torque the fasteners to 2 Nm (18 in. lbs.).
6. Pull the top of the fascia forward until the rear portion of the elongated holes align with the holes in upper crossmember and install the fascia push pin retainers.
