Door System Improvements
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves identifying sounds made by the door system and making repairs based on build date.
MODELS:
2001 (ST) Sebring/Stratus Coupe
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Several different sounds may be heard from opening/closing the door glass or door. Some of the sounds are dependent on temperature and may be ditficult to reproduce. Following is a list (with build date correction) of sounds and conditions in which they may be heard.
1. DOOR UPSTOP BUMPERS - Vehicles built prior to March 7, 2001 (MDHO3O7XX) - A loud "POP" sound may be heard when rolling down the door glass from the full-up position during cold temperatures.This sound may only occur the first time the glass is opened after sitting overnight and may not be easy to repeat.
2. LOWER SASH - Vehicles built prior to February 15, 2001 (MDH0215XX) - A "GROAN" sound may be heard from the door glass during the first 6 inches of travel of the full open (down) position. The glass can be moving in the up or down direction when the sound is heard.
3. INNER BELT LINE MOLDING - Vehicles built prior to January 26, 2001 (MDH0126XX) - A "SQUEAK" sound may be heard during window operation (up or down) when wet.
4. LOWER DOOR BUMPER - Vehicles built prior to February 16, 2001 (MDHO216XX) - A "P0P" or "CRACK" sound may be heard when opening the door during cold temperatures.
DIAGNOSIS:
If a customer describes any of the above conditions, inspect the build date for applicability. If the vehicle meets the build date requirements, perform the applicable Repair Procedure(s).
