B. Anti-Separation Plate Installation

1. Install the anti-separation plate as shown in Figure 2.

2. Install the provided steering wheel retaining nut. Tighten the nut to 45 ft-lbs (61 Nm).

3. Connect the clockspring squib connector to the airbag by pressing straight in on the connector. Push the connector past the secondary latch fingers until it is fully seated into the module squib.

4. Install the airbag onto the steering wheel.

5. Install the airbag retaining nuts and tighten to 90 in-lbs (10 Nm).

6. Turn the ignition key to the ON position.

7. Check to see that no one is inside the vehicle and then connect the negative battery cable.

8. From the passenger side of the vehicle, turn the ignition key to the OFF position and then back to the ON position.

9. Observe the instrument panel airbag lamp. It should go on for six to eight seconds and then go out indicating that the system is functioning normally.

NOTE:
If the airbag lamp either fails to light, or goes on and stays on, there is a system malfunction. Refer to the appropriate Passive Restraint Diagnostic Test Manual to diagnose and repair the problem.
