SUBJECT:
A/C **Honk** Or Fog Horn Sound
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the A/C expansion valve.
MODELS:
2001 - **2002** (JR) **Sebring Convertible**/Sedan/Stratus Sedan
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
**Honk** or "fog horn" sound coming from the A/C expansion valve within a few seconds of A/C clutch engagement, or immediately after A/C clutch disengagement. This sound lasts anywhere from one to three seconds and can be confused with the sound a vehicle braking system makes as the vehicle is allowed to creep forward while at curb idle. Vibration from **the honk condition can sometimes** be felt in the passenger compartment, especially in the steering wheel and seats. **Performing this TSB will not improve any vehicle noise conditions that last longer than three seconds.**
DIAGNOSIS:
Due to the random occurrence of this sound, it is not always possible to successfully test for this condition. Therefore, the complaint must be carefully reviewed with the customer to avoid replacing an A/C expansion valve unnecessarily.
