Trunk / Liftgate: Adjustments
ADJUSTMENT
NOTE: The adjustment procedure must be performed on both sides of the liftgate. Perform all steps on each side.
CAUTION: Be careful not to change the liftgate alignment beyond specification. Refer to Body and Frame / Specifications
1. Cut a strip of paper 25.4 mm X 279.4 mm (1 in. X 11 in.) to use as a gauge.
2. Insert the strip of paper (2) between the bumper and drain channel (1).
3. Close the liftgate.
4. Pull the strip of paper out from between the liftgate bumper and the drain channel, observing the effort required to remove it.
5. If the strip of paper pulls out easily, the liftgate bumper must be adjusted. Proceed to step 6. If the strip of paper does not pull out easily, proceed to step 8.
6. Open the liftgate.
7. Loosen the liftgate bumper screw (1) and lower the bumper 1 mm (0.04 in.). Tighten the screw to 10 Nm (88 in. lbs.).
8. Spray tracing powder (Castle p/n C1619 or equivalent) in the drain channel along the liftgate bumper contact area.
9. Close the liftgate.
NOTE: The liftgate bumper must make full contact with the drain channel.
10. Open the liftgate and verify that the liftgate bumper has made correct contact by observing the tracing powder. If there is proper contact, proceed to step 11. If there is insufficient contact, clean the tracing powder off the bumper and drain channel, and repeat steps 7-10.
11. Clean the tracing powder off the bumper and the drain channel.
12. Close the liftgate.
