BLEEDING ABS BRAKE SYSTEM

CAUTION: Sufficient, new brake fluid must be present in the brake fluid reservoir at all times during the bleeding procedure, or air could enter the brake system.

NOTE: Follow the appropriate bleed procedure for the type of repair.

Bleeding after master cylinder replacement

1. Install the new master cylinder and brake fluid reservoir.
2. Connect the brake lines to the master cylinder connections.
3. Perform base brake system bleeding.
4. Calibrate the brake pressure sensor (if equipped) per diagnostic tool instructions.

Bleeding after brake pressure sensor replacement

1. Install the new brake pressure sensor.
2. Perform base brake system bleeding.
3. Calibrate the brake pressure sensor per diagnostic tool instructions.

Bleeding after hydraulic control unit (HCU) replacement

NOTE: A new HCU is filled to capacity with brake fluid before shipping.

NOTE: This procedure must be begun before the removal of the defective HCU.

1. Open the LF and RF brake caliper bleeder screws.
2. Apply the brake pedal and fix it with a pedal support.
3. Close the LF and RF brake caliper bleeder screws.

NOTE: Disconnect the master cylinder-side lines from the HCU first and plug the HCU on the HCU. Then disconnect the wheel-side lines from the HCU and plug the ports on the HCU.

NOTE: Connect the wheel-side lines to the HCU first, then remove the protective caps from the HCU and install the master cylinder-side lines.

4. Remove the defective HCU.
5. Install a new HCU.
6. Remove the pedal support.
7. Perform base brake system bleeding.

Bleeding after brake caliper replacement

NOTE: This procedure must be begun before the removal of the defective caliper(s).

1. Open the LF and RF brake caliper bleeder screws.
2. Apply the brake pedal and fix it with a pedal support.
3. Close the LF and RF brake caliper bleeder screws.
4. Remove the defective caliper and install a new one.
5. Remove the pedal support.

NOTE: Base brake system bleeding is only necessary for the caliper that was replaced.

6. Perform base brake system bleeding.
