Standard Procedure - Heating Grid Terminal Repair
STANDARD PROCEDURE - HEATING GRID TERMINAL REPAIR
If the rear defroster terminal has detached from the heated backlight it can be repaired by using part number 05191969AA. The kit includes two pre-soldered terminals and a packet of electrically conductive adhesive to perform the following repair.
1. Open the top until the backlight is in a vertical position and can be easily accessed.
2. Cover the compartment lid to avoid any paint damage and secure the rear bow.
NOTE: Do not use an electrical gun that is rated higher then 500 Watts as damage to the backlight can occur.
3. Using a soldering gun to remove the terminal bridge from the backlight.
4. Cover the adjacent areas with tape to avoid damage to the top or backlight.
NOTE: Do not use steel wool to clean the soldering surface.
5. Applying light pressure, clean the soldering area using a general purpose hand pad.
6. Clean the soldering area with isopropyl alcohol.
7. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers or equivalent, position the new terminal on the glass approximately 5-10 mm (.2-.4 in) below the existing location.
8. Using a soldering gun, heat one end of the terminal until red flux is visible at its edges. Let the area cool and repeat on the opposite side.
9. Remove the soldering gun and hold the terminal in place until it is firmly attached to the backlight.
10. After the terminal has cooled (approximately 5 minutes), cover the broken bus bar with the electrically conductive adhesive, up to a thickness of 0.1-0.2 mm (0.004-0.008 in).
11. Allow adhesive to cure for 24 hours. Reconnect the wiring harness connector and check the operation of the rear window defogger.
