Repair Procedure

1981 & Early 1982 Vehicles Equipped With After-Run Fan

1. Disconnect battery.

2. Remove existing radiator fan relay and install new Relay With Timer PN 4221671.

3. Reconnect battery.

4. Proceed to "System Operation Test."

Late 1982 Vehicles Without After-Run Fan

1. Disconnect battery.

2. Remove existing radiator fan relay. Install and connect new relay with timer, PN 4221671.

NOTE:
THE VEHICLE ALREADY CONTAINS THE WIRING REQUIRED FOR THE AFTER-RUN FUNCTION.






3. Install Ambient Sensor, PN 3747999, to fan shroud using 10 x 16 x 1/2" Screw PN 9421073 (Figure 22).

4. Relocate taped back two-way connector in wiring harness near fan and install to ambient sensor.

5. Reconnect battery.

System Operation Test

A/C Passenger Cars Only - Turn ignition switch to "On" position (engine off) with A/C switch in A/C mode. Fan should operate with A/C clutch at room temperature.

All Vehicles - Turn A/C (heater) switch to "Off" position (fan should shut off with cold engine). Start engine and run at 2000 rpm until radiator fan motor comes on.

CAUTION:
SHUT DOWN ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IF ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON BEFORE FAN MOTOR OPERATES AND DETERMINE CAUSE.

Bring engine to idle and turn off. Fan should continue to operate approximately 10 minutes (fan will not after-run in extremely cold temperatures).



Type the Authorized Modification Label, PN 4275086.

Install label next to or near the original VECI label.
