SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Some early built subject models may exhibit a false low fuel lamp and an audible "low fuel" message when the fuel is not low. An audible "low fuel" message will be emitted with the low fuel lamp. This condition may occur when various switches and solenoid devices such as A/C clutch, gas filler door, and horn and door locks are activated. The audible message center "low fuel message is controlled by the low fuel lamp, which is controlled by the trip computer. Therefore, each time the lamp comes on, the audible message will be emitted..

REPAIR PROCEDURE
If a false "low fuel" message occurs on the light bar, remove the travel computer and note its date code. Replace the module or modify its wiring harness connector using the following criteria:
1. If the travel computer's date code is 3362 or greater, replace the module.
2. When the date code is less than 3362, install a wire jumper at the 10 pin wire harness connector (Figure 1) in the following manner:
A. Remove the pin spacer from the 10 pin connector (Figure 1).
FIGURE 1:
FIGURE 2:
B. Remove pins 6 (20 Bk/Lg) and 10 (20 Bk) keeping the wires intact (Figures 1 and 2).
C. If a diode is soldered to these pins (Figure 2), remove it by desoldering. Discard the diode, it is not to be used.
FIGURE 3:
D. Prepare a jumper wire by cutting a 3-1/4 inch piece of insulated 22 or 24 gage wire and strip 1/2 inch of the insulation from both ends.
E. Using a good rosin core solder, solder one end of the jumper to pin 6, the other end to pin 10. Be sure that the connection is small enough that the pins can be reinserted into the connector (Figure 3).
FIGURE 4:
F. Insert the pins back into the proper positions in the connector. Push them in until you hear them lock into place (Figure 4).
G. Insert the pin spacer (removed in Step A) into the connector and reinstall the travel computer into the cluster.
3. If the above modification does not work, electrical damage has occurred to the computer before the jumper was added. It will be necessary to replace the computer to correct the condition. The replacement computer will not require any modifications.
