Disassembly

1. Place carburetor on repair stand tool C-3886 or equivalent.
2. Remove duty cycle solenoid and gasket or oxygen feedback solenoid and gasket.
3. Remove idle stop carburetor switch and bracket assembly.
4. Remove rod retainers that hold throttle connector rod to accelerator pump arm and throttle lever, then remove rod from carburetor.
5. Remove accelerator pump arm screw and disengage from pump rod ``S'' link, leaving ``S'' link connected to pump rod, then remove lever.
6. Remove rod retainers and washer that holds choke diaphragm connector rod to choke vacuum diaphragm and air valve lever.
7. Remove rod retainer that holds choke connector rod to choke countershaft.
8. Remove step-up piston cover plate attaching screw and cover plate.
9. Remove metering rod cover plates, then the step-up piston and link assembly with step up rods.
10. Remove step-up piston spring.
11. Remove discharge pump nozzle housing screw, housing and gasket, then invert carburetor and remove discharge check needle.
12. Remove ten bowl cover screws, noting that two of the bowl cover screws are located between choke valve and wall of bowl cover, then remove bowl cover and invert on work bench.
13. Remove float bowl from throttle body.
14. Remove float lever pins and lift out float assemblies. Mark float on pump side so that floats can be installed in their original positions.
15. Mark needle valve on pump side for identification, then remove needle valves from seats.
16. Using wide blade screwdriver, remove needle valve seats. Ensure that needle valves are returned to their original seats during assembly.
17. Remove secondary metering jets.
18. Remove plastic accelerator pump passage tube and bowl cover gasket.
19. Remove accelerator pump ``S'' link.
20. Remove pump plunger assembly by placing small rod on upper end of plunger shaft and tapping lightly with small hammer. Be careful not to damage plunger shaft hole in bowl cover. This should be done with fingers placed under lower portion of pump cylinder to catch intake check seat, pump plunger and spring. Check seat will be damaged when pump plunger is driven out. Always install new check seat and plunger during assembly.
21. Remove ``L'' shaped fuel inlet hose.
22. Remove fuel inlet fitting and gasket.
23. Remove solenoid bowl vent valve assembly.
24. Remove step-up actuating lever.
25. Remove choke diaphragm and bracket assembly with hose and set aside for special cleaning. The carburetor vacuum fitting hides a very small vacuum passage restriction. Clean passage only with compressed air.
26. Remove concealment plugs for idle mixture screws.
27. On all models, remove idle mixture adjusting screws and springs, if equipped. It is not advisable to remove throttle shafts or valves unless wear or damage necessitates the installation of new parts.
28. Remove primary O-ring seals from main body and discard.
29. Remove primary metering jets.
