Manual Transmission/Transaxle

Specifications

A0460 & A-525 Type Transaxles

The new Chrysler designed and built A-460 and A-525 "fully-synchronized" manual transaxies combine gear reduction, ratio selection, and differential functions in one unit housed in a die- cast aluminum case. The A-460 is a four-speed and the A-525 is a five-speed.

All manual transaxies have larger diameter 1-2 synchronizers and 1st and 2nd stop rings that provide greater capacity and reduce 1st and 2nd gear shift effort. This new synchronizer also utilizes a new cast iron 1-2 shift fork and plastic pads that are wider than the other shift fork pads on the transaxle. AH synchronizers use a "winged strut" design that prevents the struts from popping out of position.

If any synchronizer is to be disassembled, mark all parts so that they will be reassembled in the same position.
