SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Partial choke closing, resulting in a rich condition causing hard hot restarts in cool ambients, along with black smoke from the tailpipe.

DIAGNOSIS

With the engine warm, remove the air cleaner and verify that the choke blade is partially closed. If closed, continue with repair procedure. If not, refer to the proper Diagnostic Test Procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED

ALONG WITH THE PACKAGE LISTED BELOW, IT WILL BE NECESSARY ORDER AN AIR HORN GASKET FOR ADJUSTING THE FLOAT LEVEL.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

This repair involves the elimination of the choke control switch, the addition of cold trapped spark, and a float level adjustment.

1. Remove the electrical leads from the choke control switch.

2. Install the switch jumper cable supplied, PN 4362459, to the electrical leads removed from the choke control switch.

3. Remove the existing engine vacuum harness, including solenoids, while retaining the vapor harness.

NOTE: THE SIGNAL LINE FOR THE BOWL VENT WILL BE REMOVED WITH THE ENGINE VACUUM HARNESS.

4. Replace the 3-port T.I.D.C. valve with the supplied valve, PN 4268716, per the service manual procedure.

5. Replace the 2-port CVSCC valve with the supplied 5-port CVSCC valve, PN 4307895, per the service manual procedure.

6. Install supplied vacuum harness, PN 4324484 for "B" van and PN 4324485 for "D" and "W". Connect vacuum hoses and install new solenoid where old solenoid was removed. Refer to hose routing, Figure 1 for "D" and "W" and Figure 2 for "B" van.

7. Use 3/16" vacuum hose, PN 4026511, for the bowl vent signal line. Refer to appropriate Figure 1 or 2 for routing.

8. Using service manual procedure, reset carburetor float height to .375".
