1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove carburetor air cleaner and fuel line.
3. Disconnect accelerator linkage, then remove vacuum control tube at carburetor and distributor.
4. Disconnect spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
5. Disconnect heater hose, then the clamp attaching bypass hose.
6. Disconnect heat indicator sending unit electrical connector.
7. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold flange.
8. Disconnect diverter valve vacuum line from intake manifold, then remove air tube assembly from cylinder head, if equipped.
9. Remove closed ventilation system, evaporation control system and cylinder head cover.
10. Remove rocker shaft assembly and pushrods. During disassembly note location of pushrods so they can be installed in the same position.
11. Remove 14 cylinder head attaching bolts, then the cylinder head, intake and exhaust manifold as an assembly.
12. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Tighten head bolts in sequence shown in Fig. 3.
b. Loosen bolts and nuts holding intake manifold to exhaust manifold. This is required to obtain proper alignment.
c. Install intake and exhaust manifold and carburetor assembly to cylinder head with cup side of conical washers against manifold.
