CHECKING FLUID LEVEL

With vehicle on a level surface, start engine and operate at idle speed until normal operating temperature is reached. With parking brake applied, shift transmission through all ranges, then return to Neutral. Remove dipstick and check fluid level. Fluid level should be within the HOT range on dipstick. If necessary, add Dexron II fluid to raise fluid level as specified.

CHANGING FLUID

On four wheel drive models and models operated under severe conditions, the transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles. When refilling transmission, add only Dexron II automatic transmission fluid.
1. Remove drain plug and drain differential into a suitable container.
2. Install drain plug using a new gasket.
3. Add 10.6 pints Dexron II fluid to transmission through dipstick hole.
4. Run engine at least two minutes, then shift transmission through all ranges and check fluid level.
5. Ensure fluid level is between the COLD upper limit and HOT lower limit with transmission fluid at normal operating temperature.
