2 Wheel Drive

1. Drain oil from the differential gear housing.
2. Remove both the right and left rear axle shafts.
3. Remove the differential gear housing retaining nuts and the gear carrier. Lightly tap the gear carrier with a mallet to aid removal.
4. Reverse procedure to install. After applying gear oil to the bearing and gear sliding surfaces, apply a sealer to the axle housing and packing, then install the differential assembly with bolts to the rear axle housing. Torque the bolts to 18-22 ft. lbs on 1987-90 and 1991-92 2.4L models and to 29-40 ft. lbs on 1991-92 3.0L models.
