Removal and Replacement

TWO WHEEL DRIVE MODELS

1. Drain transmission fluid as described under ``Changing Fluid.''
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove transmission under cover.
4. Remove snap ring and clevis pin, then disconnect throttle cable from transmission.
5. Disconnect shift linkage and speedometer cable from transmission.
6. Disconnect inhibitor switch electrical connector from transmission.
7. Mark position of propeller shaft for installation reference, then remove propeller shaft from transmission.
8. Remove starter motor attaching bolts.
9. Remove bellhousing cover, then the torque converter-to-drive plate attaching bolts. Rotate crankshaft as necessary to gain access to all six bolts.
10. Disconnect oil cooler lines, then remove filler tube and tube O-ring from transmission.
11. Remove rear engine support insulator and No. 2 crossmember.
12. Support lower part of transmission using a suitable jack, then remove transmission-to-engine attaching bolts.
13. Move transmission rearward and carefully lower assembly from vehicle.
14. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. When the transmission is separated from the engine, the rear of the engine has a tendency to raise slightly. To compensate for this, the front exhaust pipe should be disconnected from the catalytic converter to lower the engine.
b. When mounting transmission to engine, ensure transmission attaching bolt holes are properly aligned with lugs on engine.
