This bulletin applies only to Dakota trucks built prior to MDH 07-28-08. Vehicles built after this can be identified by the presence of a diverter valve mounted on a bracket near the air pump.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Vehicles without a diverter valve may exhibit an intermittent or constant curb idle speed that is higher than the specified rpm.
DIAGNOSIS
Disconnect and plug the vacuum hose at the carburetor vacuum kicker. If this corrects the condition, proceed with the repair procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED
Driveability Kit, PN 4419444
Consists of:
1 Solenoid Jumper Wiring Assembly PN 4482025
1 Tie Wrap PN 6015756
1 Authorized Modification Label PN 4275086
REPAIR PROCEDURE
This procedure consists of installing a diode jumper wiring assembly between the ASRV solenoid and the vacuum electric switch. This will prevent electrical feedback to the electronic spark advance module, which causes the carburetor throttle kicker to be incorrectly energized (extended).
FIGURE 1:
1. In the engine compartment locate the 3-way plastic connectors near the dual vacuum solenoid and the purge vacuum solenoid at the passenger side dash panel.
2. Separate these connectors as shown in Figure 1.
FIGURE 2INSTALLATION OF SOLENOID DIODE JUMPER WIRING ASSEMBLY, PN 4482025:
3. Install the solenoid diode jumper wiring assembly, PN 4482025, into the separated connectors and attach tie wrap, PN 6015756, as shown in Figure 2.
