Fig. 7 Inner axle shaft needle bearing removal:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle and remove axle shaft.
2. Remove disconnect housing cover assembly.
3. Working through axle shaft hub, remove bearing seal retainer attaching screws, then the axle shaft.
4. Remove snap ring and splined gear from axle shaft, then using suitable puller, remove bearing and seal from shaft.
5. Working through axle disconnect housing, remove shift collar.
6. Remove inner axle shaft. Refer to "Left Side Axle Shaft, Bearing And Seal, Replace" for procedure.
7. Remove needle bearing from inner axle shaft using tool D-330.
8. Remove inner axle shaft bearing using tools D-354-1 and D-354-4 and handle C-4171.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install inner axle shaft bearing using tool D-354-2 and handle C-4171.
b. Install needle bearing into inner axle shaft using tool D-328 and handle C-4171.
c. Torque outer axle seal retainer attaching screws to 200 inch lbs.
d. Torque disconnect housing cover assembly to 10 ft. lbs.
