Front Axle Service

Fig. 8 Axle shaft components:

1. Remove front hub cotter pin, locknut and spring washer, then with service brake applied, loosen hub nut.
2. Raise and support front of vehicle.
3. Remove hub nut, washer, wheel and tire assembly.
4. Remove six axle flange to axle shaft inner CV (constant velocity) joint attaching bolts.
5. Support CV joint housing, then remove axle shaft from hub by pulling on outer CV joint.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque inner axle shaft CV joint to axle flange attaching bolts to 65 ft-lbs.
b. Torque hub nut to 190 ft.lbs.
c. Torque lug nuts to 85 ft-lbs.
