Wheel Hub: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support vehicle then remove wheel assemblies.
2. Place free wheeling hub in "free" position.
3. Remove hub cover.
4. Remove drive axle snap ring and shims, if any.
5. Remove automatic free wheeling hub retaining bolts then remove free wheeling hub.
6. Remove front brake assembly and support aside. Do not allow brake assembly to hang by brake hose.
7. Remove wheel bearing locknut by using locknut tool No. MB990954, or equivalent.
8. Remove inner and outer bearings and front hub assembly.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Adjust wheel bearing.
b. Apply a coat of semi-drying sealant equally on free wheeling hub mounting surface.
c. Align key of brake (B) and keyway of knuckle then loosely install free wheeling hub assembly.
d. Check that hub proper and automatic free wheeling hub assembly are brought into intimate contact when assembly is forced lightly against hub proper. If not, turn hub until intimate contact is achieved.
