Test 3 - Coil Check
1. With the ignition ON, check voltage at the coil positive terminal. The positive terminal voltage should be within one volt of battery voltage. If battery voltage is obtained go to 3 (coil negative terminal voltage check).
Testing For Battery Voltage At Coil:
2. Check voltage at the coil positive terminal with the ignition switch in the RUN position.
- If no battery voltage is obtained check starter relay and replace if necessary, check wiring between battery positive and coil.
- If the circuit between the coil positive terminal and battery is not continuous check the ignition resistor and replace if necessary.
Testing For Battery Voltage At Coil Negative:
3. Check voltage at coil negative terminal, it should be within one volt of battery voltage.
4. If there is battery voltage at negative terminal and no spark when the negative terminal is grounded replace ignition coil. If there is spark when the negative terminal is grounded refer to TEST 4.
