Output Diagnostic Test Mode (Circuit Actuation Tests)
The purpose of the circuit actuation test mode is to check for the proper operation of output circuits or devices which the SMEC cannot internally recognize. The SMEC can attempt to activate these outputs and allow an observer to verify proper operation. Most of the tests available in this mode provide an audible or visual indication of device operation (click of relay contacts, spray of fuel, etc.) With the exception of an intermittent condition, if a device functions properly during its test, it can be assumed that the device, its associated wiring, and its driver circuit are in working order.
1. Enter system into Diagnostic Test Mode as outlined previously, then wait until Code 55 has been displayed indicating end of fault code display.
2. Ensure Read/Hold switch is in the Read position.
3. Depress ATM button on readout box to activate display, holding button down until desired display code appears.
4. The SMEC will turn the selected circuit on and off at two second intervals for five minutes, then turn the test off. To stop test cycle, turn Off ignition.
5. Each display code will activate a specific current as follows:
a. 01--Spark activation once every 2 seconds.
b. 02--Injector activation once every 2 seconds.
c. 03--AIS activation; one step open/one step closed every 4 seconds.
d. 04--Radiator fan relay activation once every 2 seconds.
e. 05--A/C WOT relay activation once every 2 seconds. Air Condition switch must be in the on position to allow actuation.
f. 06--ASD relay activation once every 2 seconds.
g. 07--Purge solenoid activation; one toggle every 2 seconds.
h. 08--Speed Control Vacuum and Vent Solenoid Activation; with switch in On position, every 2 seconds.
i. 09--Alternator field control activation; one toggle every 2 seconds.
j. 10--Part throttle unlock solenoid activation: every two seconds.
6. If selected circuit fails to operate, check continuity of wiring and operation of individual components and repair or replace as needed.
