DO NOT USE COIL CABLE DISENGAGEMENT TO CREATE SPARK GAP AS AN ENGINE STARTING AID.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
No-start condition suspected to be caused by fuel flooding or fouled spark plugs.
PROHIBITED STARTING PRACTICE
Do not disengage the coil cable from the distributor cap to create an additional spark gap, while attempting to start a flooded engine. This practice may ignite either nearby fuel vapors or the distributor cap.
The risk of fire may be immediate or occur at a later time if the coil cable does not get properly reinserted into the cap.
All dealers must prevent use of this prohibited starting practice. The following actions must be taken in this regard:
1. Advise all service (and transportation) personnel of the fire potential caused by the above practice and instruct them against its use.
2. Inspect all inventory and incoming replacement vehicles to ensure that coil and spark plug cables are properly engaged at the distributor cap.
3. For correction of a no-start condition, refer to the appropriate Diagnostic Test Procedure.
