SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Loss of reverse gear engagement due to reverse pull-up ring or lockout strap failure.

DIAGNOSIS
Remove the gearshift knob from the manual gearshift mechanism. Lift the reverse pull-up ring (Figure 1) to engage reverse gear. If the pull-up ring detaches from the gearshift mechanism, follow the repair procedure below.
PARTS REQUIRED
1 Pull-up Ring Service Package P/N 4443404
REPAIR PROCEDURE
This procedure outlines replacement of the pull-up ring assembly.
1. Remove the gearshift knob and boot (this may require floor console removal on some models).

2 Remove the gearshift mechanism reverse lockout pin (Figure
1) (note the reverse lockout ring orientation).

3. Lift out the defective reverse lockout strap and pull-up ring assembly as shown in Figure 2.
4. Assemble the replacement pull-up ring to the reverse lockout strap.
5. Insert the replacement reverse lockout strap and pull-up ring assembly into the gearshift lever.
6. Line up the holes in the reverse lockout strap and the reverse lockout ring. Insert the replacement reverse lockout pin.
7. Check for proper operation of the reverse lockout system.
8. Replace the gearshift boot and knob (and console if applicable).
