1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove transmission and transfer case shift lever knobs, then the console.
3. Raise and support vehicle, remove transfer case skid plate, then drain transmission and transfer case.
4. Mark positions of propeller shaft companion flanges, remove retaining bolts, then remove front and rear propeller shafts.
5. Disconnect front exhaust pipe and remove bellhousing cover.
6. Disconnect speedometer cable and electrical connectors from transmission and transfer case.
7. Disconnect clutch cables or clutch release cylinder. Support rear of engine with jack. Remove transfer case mounting bracket.
8. Support transmission assembly with suitable jack, then remove transfer case bracket and the No. 2 crossmember.
9. Remove bolts securing transmission to engine, separate transmission taking care not to twist or damage input shaft.
10. Remove transmission and transfer case as an assembly, tilting front of transmission downward and lowering assembly toward front of vehicle.
11. Reverse procedure to install. Torque companion flange bolts to 36-43 ft. lbs.
