SYMPTOM/CONDITION
A lean fuel calibration during cold open loop conditions and during warm low vacuum tip-in may cause cold and warm engine hesitations, sags, and/or occasional popbacks on throttle tip-in.
DIAGNOSIS
After using the DRB II and finding no fault codes present, proceed with the following repair procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED
1 Package, Module (Federal) P/N 4443973
Kit Contents:
1 SMEC 1 Restrictor 1 Hose
1. Package, Module (California) P/N 4443975 Kit Contents:
1 SMEC 1 Restrictor 1 Hose
1 Label, Authorized Modifications P/N 4275086
FIGURE 1:
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove the purge line from the front of the throttle body (Figure 1).
2. Insert one end of the in-line restrictor connector into the purge line hose.
3. Insert the other end of the restrictor connector into the short rubber hose (1/4 x 1.25 in.).
4. Connect the short hose to the nipple on the throttle body that the purge hose was removed from.
5. Remove the air cleaner duct from the SMEC.

6. Remove the module mounting screws (Figure 2).
7. Remove 14- and 60-way wiring connectors from the SMEC and remove the SMEC.
8. Connect the 14- and 60-way connectors to the new SMEC.
9. Position the SMEC and install the retaining screws.
10. Install the air cleaner duct to the SMEC.

11. Install the Authorized Modification Label noting the installation of the module package (Figure 3).
