Service replacement air conditioning compressor valve plates and end covers.

DIAGNOSIS

To improve the quality of the C-171 air conditioning compressor, some running changes were made during the 1988 model year. These changes include new style thin valve plates which improves compressor efficiency and the elimination of the low silicon rear end covers which will reduce through-bolt leakage. The new covers and valve plates must be replaced as a set when servicing this portion of the compressor.

The new thin valve plates require new end covers, and therefore these new valve plates cannot be used with old style end covers.

The low silicon rear end covers do not have the sealing ability of the high silicon rear end covers and therefore should not be used for any service repairs.

PARTS REQUIRED

To prevent confusion and to make the repair procedure easier, two new service replacement high silicon end cover/valve plate kits have been made available which can be used to service all end covers and valve plates for all model years.

NOTE: WHEN SERVICING EITHER VALVE PLATES OR COVERS, BOTH MUST BE REPLACED. DO NOT MIX OLD COVERS AND OLD VALVE PLATES WITH THE NEW ONES IN THE KITS LISTED BELOW.

The low silicon rear end covers have been purged from service parts. There may be some of these low silicon rear end covers left in dealer stock but these low silicon pieces should not be used when repairing the compressor.
