SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Check engine lamp is illuminated and Fault Code 22 (engine coolant sensor) is stored in diagnostic memory. When the vehicle is shut off and restarted, the check engine lamp may not be lit but Fault Code 22 will remain in memory.
DIAGNOSIS
Perform the applicable Diagnostic Test Procedures. If the coolant sensor is not found to be defective, replace the coolant temperature sensor connector as outlined below.
PARTS REQUIRED
The following must be ordered separately:
1 Coolant Sensor Connector Repair Pigtail PN 4414901
2 Heat Shrink Wrap Tubing PN 4400683
REPAIR PROCEDURE
This repair involves replacing the coolant temperature sensor connector with a revised connector.
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Cut off old coolant temperature sensor wiring harness connector.
3. Strip wire ends on vehicle wiring harness.
4. Slide 3" section of heat shrink wrap, PN 4400683, on to each wire of harness.
5. Match wire harness colors and solder wires together using rosin core solder.
6. Slide heat shrink tubing over area of splice and apply heat to shrink tubing. Tape all exposed wire.
7. Reconnect coolant sensor and battery.
8. Start vehicle and check that the fault does not reoccur.
