The transfer case can be removed without removing transmission. When removing complete assembly, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/Service and Repair.
1. Remove plug from right side of transfer case, then the select spring and select plunger.
2. Remove six control lever assembly attaching bolts, then the control lever assembly and gasket.
3. Remove transfer case adapter to transmission case attaching bolts.
4. Remove change shifter from control shaft.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install neutral return plungers and springs in hole on top of adapter and tighten plug until flush with adapter surface.
b. Install steel ball, resistance spring and plug.
